1. Roles

  • Host: lists a campaign for a PopBy (a visit or related experience) and sets the rules shown on the campaign page. Anyone with a MyPopBy account can host — including friends inviting friends.
  • Pledger / Fan: pledges money (via Stripe) to support a campaign under those rules.
  • PopBy / MyPopBy: provides the marketplace software, collects platform and seat fees, and facilitates payment processing through Stripe. PopBy is not the event producer unless we expressly say so for a specific PopBy-hosted event.

A host account also requires the Host Agreement. These Host–Pledger Terms still govern each campaign and pledge.

2. Campaigns

Hosts must:

  • Provide honest descriptions (what fans get, where/when, capacity, cancellation rules)
  • Only run lawful events and comply with venue, permit, and age rules
  • Keep contact and payout information accurate
  • Not use MyPopBy for prohibited or illegal content

Hosts may update logistics (time/place) when needed; material changes should be disclosed promptly to pledgers through the tools we provide or email.

3. Pledges and when money moves

  • At checkout, fans see one all-in price for each seat: the pledge amount plus the $1 seat fee, and key campaign conditions. Fans never pay a card processing fee on top.
  • The part of a pledge above the host’s minimum entry fee is the fan’s Boost. The whole pledge is charged when the fan gets a seat. Boosts seat fans first when a room is full and can unlock perks the host sets for that event; the host delivers those perks. A fan's place in line is live until the host publishes and can move as other fans pledge.
  • Depending on campaign type, Stripe may authorize a card when you pledge and capture funds when the campaign succeeds (or charge on a schedule we display). Exact timing is shown in the product for that campaign.
  • If a campaign fails to meet its stated success conditions by the deadline, authorizations are typically released and captures are not completed — again as shown for that campaign.
  • A pledge is an offer to support the campaign under the displayed rules, not a guarantee that the event will occur.

4. Fees

FeeWho paysTypical amount
Platform feeDeducted from captured pledges10% of each captured pledge (ticket and Boost); the host keeps 90%. On a founding creator’s first PopBy (the first 1,000 creators to publish), 3%; the host keeps 97%
Seat feeFan, inside the all-in price$1 per seat; pledges made under the earlier $3 booking fee are charged $1
Card processingPopByPaid by PopBy out of its fees on each charge. On a refund, the host owes the card network’s fee as shown in the product

PopBy’s revenue is the platform fee and seat fee (and any other fees we clearly disclose). Hosts receive captured pledge amounts minus platform fees, refunds, chargebacks, and reserves we disclose for risk.

5. Host payouts

  • The host’s share of each charge is added to the host’s payout balance and paid to the host’s linked payout method automatically every Tuesday when the available balance is at least $25. A smaller balance is paid out anyway once four weeks have passed since the last payout, and the host can request a payout of any available balance of $5 or more at any time. Payouts are subject to Stripe and MyPopBy review holds (fraud, disputes, identity checks) and to refunds, chargebacks, and amounts owed. If the host disconnects payouts or closes their account, any remaining available balance is paid out regardless of size.
  • Hosts are responsible for taxes on amounts they receive.
  • We may delay, reverse, or claw back payouts for chargebacks, refunds, errors, or policy violations.

6. Refunds, cancellations, and no-shows

Default expectations (unless the campaign page states clearer rules):

  • If a host cancels an event, pledgers should receive a refund of captured pledge amounts attributable to that event, together with the seat fee.
  • If a pledger cancels after capture, refunds follow the campaign’s stated cancellation policy; if none is stated, refunds are not guaranteed.
  • No-shows by pledgers generally are not refundable once the event window has passed.
  • Chargebacks: contact us and the host first. Unwarranted chargebacks may lead to account suspension.

PopBy may override and issue refunds when required by Stripe, card networks, or law, or when we reasonably determine fraud or material misrepresentation occurred.

7. Responsibilities between host and fan

The host—not PopBy—is responsible for producing the event and fulfilling stated perks. Fans are responsible for reading the campaign page, arranging their own travel, and complying with venue rules. Disputes about event quality or fulfillment should start between fan and host; we may help mediate through support but are not obligated to resolve creative or hospitality disputes beyond payment rules above.

8. Prohibited campaigns

No campaigns that: violate law; sell illegal goods/services; involve exploitation of minors; promote scams; infringe IP; or circumvent fees. We may remove campaigns and cancel pledges that violate this section.

9. Relationship to Terms of Service

If these Host–Pledger Terms conflict with the general Terms of Service on a campaign-payment topic, these terms control for that topic. Liability caps, disclaimers, indemnity, and Kansas venue in the Terms of Service still apply.

10. Changes

We may update these terms as described in the Terms of Service. Continued use of hosting or pledging features after changes means acceptance.
